Using Cartoons in your Social Media

Social media is a great way to communicate and engage in a conversation with your customers.  I don’t think this is any secret.  I think the issue many company’s want to know is how to capture the customers attention to get them to respond.

Are there any commercials out there that don’t have a request for the viewer to so called “like them” on Facebook or “follow” them on Twitter?

It’s no magic wand but cartoons can help with your social media marketing efforts.  Along with articles about your products or press releases a funny cartoon can engage your customer in the funny bone.  I’ve said it before but a good cartoon can take the edge off a message by making the customer laugh.  Make them laugh and they will want to read more.
A funny cartoon also shows your customer that you have a sense of humor and that you are not always about sales.  Industry specific jokes are especially funny since they might make light of the unlikely scenario that your customer might be able to relate too.  More often than not when I do industry specific cartoons I am making fun of scenarios that the customer might have felt when using someone else’s product or service.
Most important of all using a cartoon in your social media like Facebook and Twitter can make your message go viral!  Make someone laugh and they might click the like button which automatically shares that cartoon or message with their friends.  Even better is if you engage the reader in a conversation like a caption contest where the reader might make a comment.  If funny enough your message can get in front of hundreds of people if not thousands.

One of my latest clients GroupPrice.com has a Facebook fan page where they have a “Funny Side of Business” gallery on the page.  In there they post a weekly cartoon done by me that makes fun of scenarios that a typical small business owner might chuckle at.  This is just one of several other items they do through out the week but they are keeping engaged with the customer and hopefully doing a little entertaining too.
