Renaissance with Daniel Craig Weekly Pick #16

Friday, January 16th, 2009

I just watched Renaissance staring Daniel Craig and directed by Christian Volckman. This is an adult animated feature that takes place in the future. Everything is in a high contrast black and white except for some visual effect like smoke. I enjoyed the style very much and it reminds me of The Spirit by that just came out on the big screen. The story was okay but it was cool to see Paris in the future. Although I’m surprised that the cars still had tires. Why can’t we be running on water jets or lasers or something? Some of the henchman for the evil guy had cool suit technology that was cool. They could turn invisible but my roommate and I noticed that all it took to be invisible in the movie was to have a cool electrical sound effect buzz by your ear with small hints of ligh reflection. Crappy sound effect or not I still would want one of those suits.

I saw this cartoon at a animation festival back when I was in art school.  I’d forgotten about it until I came across it on youtube.  Very funny and twisted.
