Benitez Demands A Contract Extension Despite Giving Up The Game Winning Home Run.
by Fritz

San Francisco- Armando Benitez demanded a contract extension from the San Francisco Giants top brass after Tuesday’s loss in bottom of the 12th inning against the New York Mets.

The Giants opened up a road trip in New York Tuesday where a pitching duel was on the big stage between hot San Francisco rookie Tim Lincecum vs. Oliver Perez.  Although both pitcher pitched 7 innings, neither twirler got the win and it was left up to the bullpen.  Yada yada yada… we go into the bottom of the 12th inning and the Giants are up by one.  Benitez balks once to move Jose Reyes into scoring position and after a bunt he balks again to score the tying run.  The next pitch Carlos Delgado hits a no doubt home run over the right field wall to win the game.

The reporters and teammates alike were shocked when Benitez, after losing the game for the Giants, demanded a contract extension and a re-signing bonus.  On top of the 46 million  1/2 season extension he demanded that on games where he was not closing that he get the night off from the team and to have the option to fly home to visit family or to go to In and Out Burger Restaurants for milk shakes and a Double Double.

‘There’s no better time to ask.’  Bill Thumperton, Benitez’ agent stated, ‘It’s all about perceived value.’

‘I think looking at my performance in the past is a mistake.’  Benitez said.  ‘If you look into my eyes and see that I wanted to win the game you would see that I am worth every penny.’

Reaction from teammates that heard the post game interviews were mixed.  In fact after hearing what Benitez pulled two other players (to be named later) including a bat boy asked for similar extensions.

No reaction yet from the San Francisco front office but Crooked Street Press left several messages on voicemail.  A follow up email will be conducted in a couple of days.
